Abuja, Nigeria — Nestlé Nigeria, the largest collector of fresh milk in Northern Nigeria, calls on the partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria’s Ministry of Livestock Development and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration. This collaboration aims to revolutionise dairy farming by improving milk production, sustainability, and economic empowerment in the region.

Nestlé Nigeria is excited to announce the launch of their state-of-the-art demonstration farm designed to showcase innovative practices in dairy farming. Nestlé Nigeria through CBiIL are committed to addressing the challenges of low milk yield. The average cow in the community currently produces about one litres of milk daily. However, through improved feed choices, vaccinations, and optimised environmental conditions, the demonstration farm has shown that milk yield can be increased to an impressive fifteen litres per cow per day.

A Shared Vision for Livestock Development

The new cattle farm is designed to serve as a hub for training, research, and practical demonstrations for cattle owners, policymakers, and agricultural stakeholders. By leveraging innovative techniques, such as modern feeding systems, artificial insemination (AI), and waste management technologies, the farm aims to boost milk production per cow from the current average of 1 litre per day to over 15 litres.

"Africa is home to over 381 million cattle, with Nigeria owning about 20 million ranking fifth in terms of herd size. However, in traditional systems across Nigeria, the average milk yield per cow is just 1 litres per day. Our goal is to improve the quality and quantity of milk available for collection to about 15 litres by demonstrating these techniques to the local Fulani community," said Soji Apampa, CEO, CBiIL. "We aim to empower the community to adopt these practices, thereby enhancing their livelihoods and contributing to Nigeria’s dairy sector growth."

“We believe that partnerships with the Federal Government of Nigeria’s Ministry of Livestock Development and FCT governments can unlock immense potential for Nigeria’s livestock sector,” said Soji Apampa, CEO, CBiIL. “Through this collaboration, we can provide training programs, promote crossbreeding initiatives, and support farmers in adopting sustainable practices that will drive economic growth and food security.”

Key Areas for Collaboration

Nestlé Nigeria & CBi Innovations Ltd (CBiIL) invite the Federal Government and FCT Administration to partner in the following areas:

  1. Farmer Training Programs: Develop comprehensive training modules in local dialects to equip cattle owners with modern farming techniques, animal health management, and sustainable practices.

  2. Policy Development: Collaborate on creating and implementing policies that promote livestock development and improve milk production.

  3. Infrastructure Support: Invest in rural infrastructure, including roads, water supply, and power, to enhance farm operations and logistics.

  4. Funding and Grants: Provide financial support to encourage small-scale farmers to adopt innovative practices showcased at the demo farm.

  5. Research and Data Sharing: Work together on research initiatives to improve cattle productivity, waste management, and climate resilience.

A Call to Action
